Get up-close and personal with a Lowcountry oxbow swamp! This excursion kayaks deep into an oxbow lake and surrounding ancient cypress swamps to immerse participants in pursuit of trophy bowfin. For the unfamiliar, bowfin are an ancient fish native to our waters. It has a dual lung that allows it to breath in and out of water. The lakes we fish are stocked full of hungry bowfin and once the river levels stabilize in the late springtime, it's game until the river rises next.
The Santee River system is home to the best bowfin action in the world and your guide is an accomplished bowfin tournament angler and teacher. We'll utilize a variety of light tackle techniques chasing fish up to 30" that fight ferociously to even in the net and kayak.
Please note availability is subject to Santee River levels. Anything above minor flood stage at Jamestown, SC, will result in postponement or cancellation subject to your guide's discretion. Trip available year-round with peak season from Memorial Day through Labor Day (most action and biggest fish). Not offered some Saturdays due to fishing tournaments utilizing same landings.
