Tips to get the perfect Sullivan's Island rental experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • To get the best value, change your vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Property managers often offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Sullivan's Island visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines contain coupons for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.

How to choose the perfect rental in the Sullivan's Island area:

  • Start by selecting potential vacation weeks and a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Fun Beach House has 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Sullivan's Island vacation rental search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is often available online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the host before booking the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds. You'll need to work out what is right for your vacation family.
  • Does your family require specific amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly rental. Request details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, hosts charge pet deposits and fees.

Have a great stay:

  • Add the property manager's contact information to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Document any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if there is a dispute.
  • Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Frequently, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • At departure, take a walk-through to make sure you have not leave anything behind. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on great feedback to compel future reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your feedback find their best rental home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
